Houston, TX — More than five decades after The Spinners’ timeless hit “I’ll Be Around” helped define the sound of soul music, the classic record finds new life through a modern Hip-Hop and R&B reinterpretation led by Hardattak and platinum music producer Mike B.
Before sending the reworked track to other established clients, Mike B personally shared the record with Hardattak to gauge his interest. Upon first listen, Hardattak immediately confirmed he wanted the song, recognizing both its legacy and its potential to connect with a new generation.
Hardattak’s version of “I’ll Be Around” blends Hip-Hop/Rap and Rhythm & Blues, pairing contemporary storytelling with melodic soul. The record features Tim Stewart, Hardattak’s nephew, whose vocals add emotional depth and generational continuity to the project. The song also includes Donald “YP The Great”, an original writer on the track, who coined the standout melodic phrase:
“If you need a feature or a hit sound, I’ll be around.”
The original “I’ll Be Around” was written and produced by legendary producer Thom Bell during The Spinners’ first recording session with Atlantic Records at Sigma Sound Studios. Released in 1972, the song spent five weeks at No. 1 on the U.S. R&B chart, reached No. 3 on the U.S. Pop chart, and sold over one million copies, becoming a defining moment in soul music history.
This new rendition honors the spirit of the original while introducing modern production, lyricism, and cultural relevance. The collaboration reflects a bridge between eras — preserving musical heritage while pushing it forward through contemporary Hip-Hop and R&B.
